19th Century Farmhouse

The owners of this home wanted to improve the connection of the kitchen to the original home and to create a functional and inviting food preparation area, breakfast room and family room out of the existing space. Corner windows were utilized to allow visibility to the yard, and glass fronted cabinets balance the light-filled bank of windows at the far end. The clients needed seating for eight. To minimize the space that would be needed for this many people, a long banquet table running along the back bay of windows, terminating in a work space at one end was created. A comfortable TV viewing area is situated in the center of the space, also allowing for easy flow to all areas. Bright colors were used in feature items in contrast to the sophisticated neutral background.
